Must Have Apps

This is a list of applications that i can't live without. ( JUST MAC ).
The ones with a $ are not free.

  • Quicksilver

I don't have words to describe this application, but i must say, i wont use never ever again a computer without this installed.

  • $Textmate

This is a text editor, the lack of a good notepad on OS X pushed me to get this ( i bought it actually ). Its simply the best text editor i've ever used. Go read the manual and you will see.

  • Firefox

I Feel dumb including this one on my list since its like obvious. Its a web browser ( in case you didn't know ).

  • Adium

Pretty much the "only" decent IM for mac, there are a ton, but in my opinion all of them are crap, i don't like this one either, but i have no choice. Would be awesome if you could use ichat for gtalk and msn. Just to be clear, Yahoo msn seems to be pretty cool, but i dont use that one.

  • smcFanControl

If your mac is intel you should download and install this one right away. Its a little app to control your computer fan's RPM.

  • $Awaken

This is kinda silly, its just an alarm. I have to put it here because its the one that wakes me up to go to work. I used to use aurora ( same but free ) , but i bought a software bundle with this app so it became stock.

  • Handbreak

If you need to convert your DVDs to any given device format, this is the app. Takes a lifetime to rip, but its faster than any other ripping software.

  • $Things

I've been thinking in wirte a to-do list application pretty much since college. When i tried this i just thought of sending an email to the guy who wrote it ( along with a check ) requesting the only feature missing ( at least for me ), which is the option to move the icon from the dock to the menu.

  • $Transmit

Ftp client, the only one which I'm comfortable using.

  • Expod

Backup files from ipods ( does not work with iphone/ipod touch )

  • Dockless

This is an app that i just use to fill my necessity of order and cleanness. It removes the app icon from the doc ( along with the menus and everything ) however, i have a bunch of quicksilver triggers that does all the nasty stuff for me. Its not useful at all, but it helps to keep my dock clean ( at least without so many icons ).

  • RCDefaultApp

PrefPane to set the default app for all kind of file format.

  • Perian

QuickTime component that adds native support for many popular video formats.

  • Chmox

Read your CHM documents on your Mac.

  • Disk Inventory X

Disk usage utility. It shows the sizes of files and folders in a special graphical way called "treemaps".

  • Transmission

    My Torrent client of choice.
